Best career options after 12th PCM

The first step in choosing the best courses after 12th is knowing what options are available. After all this is one of the most important decision in a student’s life. It is also a difficult decision because there are so many good options which are available these days but we do not know which is best for us.Here is a list of various courses that you can pursue after 12th PCM.


After finishing 12th science stream schooling, one may go for undergraduate B.E. or B.Tech. Engineering program. The course duration is 4 years. Some of the prominent branches of engineering are as follows :-

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Computer Science Engineering
  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Biotechnology Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering

Admission procedure: National Level entrance test such as IIT-JEE, GATE, UPSEE, BITSAT and State level or entrance test.

Those were some of the well known Engineering branches. Majority of students with a PCM combination in class XII aspire to pursue engineering, and often struggle with the thought, “If not engineering, then what?”

Bachelor of Science

BSc in physics, chemistry, maths, astronomy, forensic Science, geology, statistics , industrial chemistry, nautical science, home science, nutrition, clothing and textile, extension and communication, environmental science, Human Development and Family studies (BSc),  fashion design, fashion technology etc.

Eligibility: 12th Science PCM with minimum 55 %percentile

Admission procedure: Merit based admission, few institutes conduct entrance exam.


B.Com- (3 years)

Banking and Insurance (BBI-3 years)

Charted Accountancy (CA)

Company Secretory (CS)

Eligibility: 12th Science/Commerce with minimum 55%

Admission Procedure: Admission B.Com is based on merit. CA/CS has National Level Exam.


Many might be surprised on seeing B.Pharm. in this section! But yeah, even Mathematics group students may go for B.Pharm.!This course is 4 years long.Opening one’s own shop is another option! A combination of B.Pharm. and M.Pharm. can also ensure you a job in Research sector as well as teaching sector.


There is always a huge demand for teachers in science subjects. Most of the students find science as intricate and complex, so they also look for a good science tutor. For a teaching career, you have to get a graduation degree with good marks. And, after that, you can go for a degree course in education. You can also pursue master’s degree programmes.


Considered to be one of the most prestigious and awe-inspiring careers, Defense forms the backbone of a country’s security against external threats. There are three primary branches of any country’s defense, namely, the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. There are no colleges for defense services, you join the NDA (National Defense Academy) after clearing its entrance exam after class 12th. ITI Courses

If you are interested in job oriented vocational courses, ITI courses could be of help to you. Students may pursue ITI programs after completing 10th and/or 12th. Duration of ITI programs could be 1-2 years (depending upon the type of course).

  • Mechanic
  • Turner

Commercial Pilot Training

10+2 passed students (with PCM subjects) are eligible to pursue Commercial Pilot training. To secure admission, one must crack aptitude test and personal interview. BSc in Aviation Sciences.

Eligibility: 12th Science PCM with high percentile.

Admission procedure: Admission is based on an all-India written test, Pilot Aptitude Test (WOMBAT) and an interview. Required good eyesight and  health.

Law Courses

If you want to pursue a law course right after 12th, integrated law programs will be of help for you. You must have completed Bachelor’s Degree to pursue LL.B. However, there also exists integrated law programs, which you may pursue after completing 10+2!

Examples of integrated law programs are –

  • BBA + LL.B.
  • B.Sc. + LL.B.
  • B.Com. + LL.B.

How to Join Indian Army after 12th ?

One can fulfill his dream of joining officer cadre of Indian armed forces after 12th, but there are certain eligibility criteria which is to be fulfilled. Below is a detailed view of how one can join India armed forces after 12th.

There are two 2 ways of joining Indian Army after 12th:

1. NDA & NA Examination:

Those who want to join the Indian Army after 12th can join the National Defense Academy (NDA), the Indian Armed Forces’ Joint Services academy.The NDA Exam is conducted twice in a year by UPSC across all major Indian cities. NDA Exam-1 is conducted around March-April and Exam-2, around August-September.

The requirements for entry into NDA is as follows:

Age – 16 ½ to 19½ yrs(at the day the course is expected to begin)
ie. Born Between 2nd Jan to 1st Jul for Dec Course and 2nd Jul to 1st Jan for Jul Course
Qualification – 12th Class of 10+2 for Army and with Physics and Maths for AF/Navy
Marital Status – Unmarried
Application to be Received by – 10-15 Nov for Jan Course and 10-15 Apr for Jul Course
Likely SSB Date – Sep to Oct and Jan to Apr(SSB can sometimes get very delayed, so this is just for reference)
Date Commencement of Training – Jan and Jul
Training Academy – NDA , Khadakwasla, Pune
Duration of Training – 3 Yrs at NDA and then 1 Yrs at IMA, Dehradun
Students must clear the NDA Exam held by UPSC. Those who qualify are called for SSB (Services Selection Board) interview after which they are selected for training under NDA.

2. Technical Entry Scheme -TES(For High School Science Graduates):  

Those who have passed 10+2 level exam with a minimum aggregate of 70% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are eligible for the 10+2 TES (Technical Entry Scheme) Course. TES Entry offers four-year Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in various disciplines after which candidates are granted Permanent Commission in the Army in the Lieutenant rank.

The TES entry is open twice a year.

Form availability – Apr and Sep Notified by Additional Directorate General of Recruiting
The requirements for entry into TES is as follows:
Age – 16 ½ to 19 yrs
ie. Born Between 1st Jul to 1st Jul for Jan Course and 1st Jan to 1 Jan for Jul Course
Qualification – 10+2 Physics, Chemistry & Maths (aggregate 70% and above to apply)
Marital Status – Un Married
Application to be Received by – 30 Jun and 31 Oct
Likely SSB Date – Aug to Oct and Feb to Apr
Date Commencement of Training – Jan and Jul
Training Academy – IMA Dehradun
Duration of Training – 5 Yrs (1 Yrs IMA & 4 Yrs CTWS) Permanent Commission after 4 Yrs.
